Birth Control Pill

The birth control pill is a popular and effective birth control option. It consists of a pill that you take every day. You can choose a type where you'll have a period once a month, or a type where you get a period as few as 4 times a year. Birth control pills work very well when they are taken as instructed without missing any pills in each pack.

Birth control pills contain two hormones, one called estrogen and one called progesterone. Taken together these hormones stop the release of an egg, or ovulation during your menstrual cycle. They also thicken the cervical mucus, making it more difficult for sperm to enter the uterus.
